Gayatri Mantra

I came across a beautiful mantra known as the Gayatri Mantra. It reminds me of similar writings from the Torah, Quran, and The Bible:

Ha Patchah – Torah

Al-Fateha – Quran

The Lord’s Prayer – Bible

The Gayatri Mantra is said to be a powerful mantra in that the one who chants it regularly will be kept on his path of dharma, which would in turn lead the chanter to happiness. Now who doesn’t want to be happy? I figured I’d try it for myself and see where it takes me. I’ll have you know that this figuring out for myself thing has led me into rather unfortunate circumstances in the past, like tasting Stinky Tofu. Boy! Was it nasty. But hey… that is a story I’d share with you if we ever were to meet. I digress… Now where were we. Ah yes…

Why I love this mantra so much is because of the way it makes me feel when I play it in the background while meditating… After my breathing settles into a natural rhythm, I start to feel surges of pulsating energy throughout my body. This places me in a different state than when I meditate with other music or none at all. I get into that zone of moving colours and then over that waterfall into the abyss of nothingness. That’s where I suddenly feel there’s me but there’s something else. An energy that I know is me but not quite me. I know… confusing. So let me give you AM’s interpretation of this.

Me: I just had the most amazing experience!

AM: *Turns and look at me.*

Me: I started seeing the colours thing, then after, I like move upwards and down into a blackness of sorts. Kind of like floated over and into it. And then I felt elated! And then I just felt nothing *pause* But then there was this presence which was me but not me. And I’m like still there. *puzzled*

AM: That’s good. That’s where you’re suppose to be.

Me: The black nothingness? What is that…

AM: The consciousness within.

Me: *Eyes widening* What about the colour thing things.

AM: That’s maya.

Me: I see the colour stuff quite often. Purples… sometimes green and whitish gold.

AM: You need to get past that.

Me: What do I do in the black thing? Do I ask anything? Like how..

AM: Find out and experience it for yourself.

Me: ……………………………………. Meh…
